Membership commitments
Optional minimum term on new subscription memberships. Default is off. Default length is 3 months.
Who can do this: Studio managers set policy. Members see the term on buy and cancel. Staff can override some plan changes.
Studios can turn on a minimum term for new subscription memberships under Settings → Memberships → Policy. Existing members are not changed. Packs, drop-ins, privates, and desk goodwill grants have no commitment.
Defaults
- Enabled: off
- Length: 3 months
- Early-cancel policy you should expect:
end_of_commitment— if they cancel during the commitment they are still billed through the end date and keep access until then.
Other policies exist as admin settings: block (client cannot cancel until the end date) and experimental charge_remaining (one remaining-months invoice; uses catalog list price and ignores promo/founding prices). Do not enable charge_remaining unless you accept those gaps.
What members see
The storefront repeats that they will be billed through the commitment end even if they cancel, then continue month-to-month until they cancel. A checkbox is required before Stripe Checkout when commitment applies. Staff desk Checkout skips the checkbox but still stamps the term.
Plan changes during a commitment
- Members cannot upgrade or change plan (buttons stay disabled). Buying a pack is still allowed.
- Staff can upgrade to a higher-priced plan from the client Membership tab; the commitment end stays the same. Staff cannot downgrade during a commitment.
Gotchas
- After the commitment, if they did not already schedule an end, billing is month-to-month.
- Staff Cancel membership confirms an override and cancels immediately in Stripe (no extra remaining-months invoice).
- Pausing and credit expiry are not part of this product today.
